Liza Johnston, LPC, NCC, MS - Relate Counseling Profile

We recently started an introduction to our team of skilled counselors, who each bring compassion and a commitment to creating a safe space for you. Our approach is rooted in empathy, understanding, and the belief that everyone deserves a nurturing environment to explore a therapy plan that is personal. You are not alone.

Here, meet Liza Johnston. Here is her official bio is on our site, but let's get to know her better here.

What are the most rewarding things about being a counselor?

I find myself grateful that I get to witness my clients’ stories—that I get to slow down, listen to them, and be a sounding board for guidance and growth. It is most rewarding to watch clients’ spirits lift, be present as they attain their goals, and sit with them as they wrestle with challenging issues. I am honored to be a part of this circle of trust and growth.

What is the one thing you recommend for self-care?

I recommend moving your body for self-care, depending on your health and mobility. For myself, that involves walking. Walking not only energizes me while also relaxing me; it allows me time to reflect, listen to music, let my mind wander, walk my dog, listen to an interesting podcast, or talk to my family and friends.  I just think about what I need that day (calming music, a good chat with a friend, support from a sister, etc.) and use my walking time to touch base with that need.

What is your favorite animal?

I love dogs and am delighted I get to see them daily out and about in Atlanta. We have two dogs (both with their high and low points, :) ), and I love cuddling with them. Looking at my friends’ pictures of their dogs, listening to dog stories, and talking to fellow dog walkers also helps connect me to others—an added bonus!
